The district is surrounded by high mountain ranges. The Rohtang Pass, at 13,05 4 feet, separates Lahaul and Spiti from the Kullu valley. The valley is located in the Northeastern section of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh and forms a part of Lahaul and Spiti district. The sub-divisional capital is Kaza, Himachal Pradesh which is located on the Spiti River at an elevation of 12,500 feet higher than the main sea level. Kinnaur-Spiti is itself a place which is loved by mostly everyone.

Detailed Day Wise Itinerary

  • Day : 1 Shimla to Narkanda

    Once you arrive and meet us at Shimla, we’ll start our journey to Narkanda which will take you around 3 hours by a cab. On the way to Narkanda, you can get to visit the beautiful villages of Fagu, Theog, Matiana, Narkanda and Apple orchards. You can enjoy your overnight stay at the hotel in the Narkanda.

  • Day : 2 Narkanda to Sangla via Sarahan

    After your morning post breakfast, we’ll proceed for Kinnaur Sangla via Sarahan which is also known as the gateway to Kinnaur valley. Following this, you can visit the Hattu peak (3,400 meters/ 11,154 feet) and submerged in the scenic beauty of Himalayas. Next on your travel map is the traditional wooden carved temple of Goddess Kali, Hawa Mahal, Cricket Ground, and Oldest Mahal of King of Himachal. After the temple tour, we’ll take our drive to Sangla valley. After a long day, you can stay in the hotel for a night in Sangla valley.

  • Day : 3 Local Sightseeing of Chitkul Sangla Valley

    After the morning breakfast, you can enjoy the local sightseeing of Chitkul Sangla valley. The tour starts with a visit to Kamru village and Kamru Fort having a dedicated temple to Goddess Kamakshi Devi. Next, we’ll be the visit to Sangla, the popular village known for its incredible sloping architecture and scenic charm. There, you can communicate with the locals and explore their simplicity and hospitality. Chitkul is another village which is the last inhabited village near the Indo-Tibetan border. There, you can enjoy being in the hands of nature at the Baspa valley. Take a rest and enjoy an overnight stay at the hotel.

  • Day : 4 Sangla to Kalpa Local Sightseeing 2,759 metres / 9,048 feet (40 km/ 2-3 hrs)

    After breakfast, you can visit Kalpa Village which is about 2-3 hours drive from Sangla valley. On the way, you can explore visiting Recongpeo, the district headquarters of Kinnaur district, enjoy a delicious lunch of your choice at the local restaurant and head towards the Kalpa and Roghi village which is famous for their production of apricots and apples. These villages also get you to catch a sight of the Mt. Kinner Kailash Mountain. Take a rest and spend the night at the hotel in Kalpa valley.

  • Day : 5 Kalpa to Tabo 3,050 metres / 10010 feet (190 km / 9-10 hrs.)

    In the morning after breakfast, we’ll drive to Tabo which is about 9-10 hrs drive from the Kalpa valley. On the way, you can explore Puh, Nako, and Gue villages – the last Indian village on the Indo-Tibetan border. There, you can visit the naturally preserved mummy of a Buddhist monk about 600 years old. Once you arrive on Tabo, you can check into the hotel.

     

  • Day : 6 Tabo to Kaza 3,200 metres / 10,500 feet, (49 km / 9 hrs.)

    After breakfast, we’ll visit the Tabo monastery which is the oldest in the Himalayas. Later, reach Kaza which is about 3 hrs. drive from Tabo. You will also visit the Dhankar village and Dhankar monastery and fort. You can pause for a cup of tea or lunch with a local family. The day ends at checking in to the hotel at Kaza.

  • Day : 7 Sightseeing around Kaza (5-6 hrs.)

    We’ll drive to Lagnza and after breakfast, you can explore the offerings of the local market and meet & spend time the natives. Enthusiasts can visit the monastery located at the top of the village. If weather conditions permit, you can drive to Hikkim, which is the highest located village in the world. Later in the day, we’ll continue the drive towards Kee Monastery and the Kibber village. During the afternoon, you can take your meal at the restaurant with a choice of Indian and Tibetan delicacies. After the day we’ll return to Kaza in the evening to spend your night at the hotel.

  • Day : 8 Kaza to Chandratal Lake

    After breakfast, we’ll drive to Chandratal Lake by crossing Kunzum Pass and Baltal. Enjoy mesmerizing scenic view of CB ranges peaks to absorb nature's aura inside you. You can spend the complete day cherishing beauty of the beautiful lake and natural surroundings; followed by an overnight stay in a camp at Chandratal Lake/Chatru.

  • Day : 9 Chandratal to Manali 2,050 metres / 6,726 feet (100 km /05 hrs)

    In the morning we’ll drive early for Manali then we’ll stop for breakfast at Chandratal Lake camp and lunch at the hotel. This day covers the crossing over two high mountain passes Kunzum pass (4,558 meters/ 14,950 feet) and Rohtang Pass (3,980 meters/ 13058 feet). On the way, you can visit the temple and catch glimpses of the unparalleled beauty of CB ranges and Glaciers. On the same day, you’ll be dropped at Manali.

    Note: Excursion to Manali is only possible if Rohtang Pass would be open in October. In case of closure of Rohtang Pass, you’ll be driven back to Delhi from Chandertal Lake

  • Day : 10 Manali to Ambala

    After your morning meal, we’ll take our drive towards the Ambala. During your journey way back you can cherish and enjoy the eye-catching view of the Himachal. You’ll be dropped at the place of your choice in Ambala.
